Um, this weird scratch on the climate control

Hello hive mind.

I recently bought back an old 1999 Boxster I used to own. Unfortunately, it came with a lot of fresh defects. I have had all the big mechanical things taken care of, now I'm down to cosmetics.

The climate control display has this orange line across it that...well, I guess the best way to describe it is simply to provide a photo.

Is there a way to fix this -- take it apart and repaint it, or buy a replacement screen -- without having to replace it with a whole new unit?

Thanks!

The LCD's in that section have died. If you are handy the unit can be disassembled and repaired . Or buy a known good used unit and replace .

Buy a kit and fix it. Easy repair.

Could your issue be something like this?

If so, and you're lucky, your solution may be as easy as post #13. If you can live with it for a while, do nothing for a few months and see what happens.

Thank you, that was very helpful.

Of the two links you supplied, is there any difference between the end result for each? Do they look OEM?

Pelican sells a LCD repair kit. Put one in my '99. Very easy do and not expensive.

the repair kit is easy...its actually fun. I swapped mine out with a parts car, but later repaired the bad one with a kit. the icons on my kit were a little different, so be aware if you think that will bother you, Some might think its an improvement. I like the stock icons because they aren't intuitive, so im the only one that understands them. :+)

Mine hasn’t done that, but a couple of my indicators have died, works fine (except for the foam blowout every now and then) so I’m in need of a new one too. Looks pretty straight forward. Have new coil overs to install this summer... not looking forward to it...
