Ignition switch part number

So I have a ‘03 base Boxster , in the pelican parts ‘how to replace’ page it tells me I need part number 4A0-905-849 and a ‘04 needs a different one 4B0-905-849.

So I ordered the first on, part arrived , removed ignition switch but the one I removed was the ‘04 version one with a white cylinder top as opposed to the black top.

Am returning the first and have reordered, so no issues there.

So why does my ‘03 have an 04 part on it , did I stupidly miss something obvious , car door sticker says 02/03 , so definitely built in 03 ?

Some cars had their lock mechanism updated. You didn't miss anything, the exact same thing happened with mine.
