2002 fuel filter question?
 

Had my 2002 boxster in for a service today and garage told me the fuel filter isnt where its suppose to be underneath, up in the tunnel behind the coolant pipes and they cant find it and did i have any idea where it was. From looking on google I think im reading that 2002 onwards the filter is in the tank.

Is this correct and is it correct it doesnt need changing?

That is correct. Since 2002, Porsche made the filter inside the gas tank and called it a lifetime filter.

oof. So theoretically, it's supposed to last the life of the car, but after 18 years, I doubt it's as effective as it was on day one. Is there an easy way to R&R it?

Just gotta pull the lid of the gas tank,which is under the battery ,so run it to them almost empty and it should be simple unless the filter is within the fuel pump..then that's a bit pricey if you go for a new factory pump,.

The filter is in the sending unit, not the pump. Years ago I had to replace both since the filter was clogged and burned out (several) pumps. Chalked that to bad gas, no issues after.
