Did you do the repair? I have the same issue on a 2003, there are two plastic fin shaped pieces attached to a frame you can see between top and headliner, I have removed them as they have worn small holes in the canvas

Thank you for the tip. I will check it out and see if I can spot the pieces you're referring to.

I thought the wear was from movement at the fold over time, but now that you mention it, I DO think it is worn at the same small spot on both sides, which does seem curious.

Isn't it likely those fin pieces serve a purpose though?

I haven't done the repair yet. Virtually no summer rain in LA. But I really should do it this month, before our winter rain. Will report back.
