This is why my 3.2 engine blew up :(

I have been slowly pulling apart the 3.2 M96 engine that was in the cheap $600 2001 Boxster S 6speed I bought the last summer. As soon as I split the case halves, the mystery was over... it ain't pretty gentleman!

What is the history of that motor? Did you track it? Lots of near redline activity?

At least the birds were happy.

I've bought two 2001 cars with engines that failed in a very similar fashion. One I'm pretty sure had a root cause of a rod bolt, the other, there was just too much carnage to be sure, but I'm guessing it was an oiling issue to the rod bearing - which was pretty much melted.
In both cases, like yours, the IMS bearing looked great.

Yes indeed, that is why when you rebuilt your engine you pay a bit extra for the ARP bolts..

Looking forward for the engine rebuilt video from Brian :-)

PS: I meant to say the new engine..

That engine was screwed, However, it was a bit his own fault when he kept running the engine after the rod broke.

Nice video, Nice to see the engine come apart in pieces to understand a bit more about my engine and how it works and where things are located.

Thank you for the post

I don't have any history of the motor, other than the car says it has 210k miles on it. The "kid" I bought it from looked like the type who over revved the motor way to many times and the engine finally said "I am done kid" lol

Not sure it's worth the money to rebuild this 3.2, not sure if the case and crank can be repaired. Might be better to find a used case and crank OR as my wife suggested a little table wine rack for my man cave!

What do you guy think?

Brian :)
