I appreciate appreciation

Seems like strong money for a low mileage '02 S. Maybe we are all gonna be rich someday?

IMO low mileage=unloved
Hopefully the new owner does it justice.

That is a fat stack of cash, though.

Mmack 03-02-2020 05:38 PM

Yep. The seller should be really happy with that. I was too.
I bought this one:

Never regretted buying this car with its particular options, but glad to see I wasn’t absolute top of market.

I bought my '04 a few years ago with ~13k on the clock and have given it tons of DD love ever since!

rexcramer 03-11-2020 01:42 PM

And the prices continue to climb...

BAT sales always bring a premium in price. Not sure exactly why (when an equivalent car can often be bought at a much lower price from a private party), but there is no doubt that they do.

As such, I don't consider BAT sales to be indicative of the market or where the market is going (I consider them outliers). But that's just me.

Auctions are dangerous things! Years ago I bought and sold high-end computer video cards on eBay. The best way to sell was always by auction. People who have little/no auction experience see the red fog and don't want to lose!

Yeah, there's a guy in FL who breaks every rule in my Wheeler Dealer book yet he still sells his Porsches on BAT for good money. He sells very high mileage Porsches, many times with accident damage. Sure, he's not bagging top, top dollar, but he is getting good numbers. I'm sure he was able to buy those cars for a song. If I had a high mileage Porsche with accident damage, I wouldn't even get a phone call. I SMH and admire his stones (most of his auctions are no reserve), but he has a cult following and always seems to get good money for what he has for sale. I have no plans to dip my toe into his niche. Too risky for me.

Another strong price on BAT for a well sorted Boxster.

I have been tracking Porsche sales on BAT for several years. I have been anticipating a drop in number of auctions and prices given are current state of things. Good cars are still commanding large numbers. 2008 RS 60 Spyder w/28K miles sold at $32K.

2002 S 6 speed, in Speed Yellow, matching hardtop with 3K on the odometer. $29,750 plus BAT's buyer's premium at 5% is $31,237.50. Add +/-$750 to ship it from North Carolina.

Here is the question. Do you immediately pull the IMS and toss it?

A beautiful car indeed, but can you imagine the internals of an engine that was only used for 3k miles during 18 years..?

It probably still has the original factory grease in the bearing. But I'd still replace it. Why spend $30K to suddenly have a car worth $4-5K as a roller?

Another question is - how much enjoyment did the original owner get out of his $50K investment? Can't imagine 3K mi was worth $20K. He would have been miles ahead investing that $50K in the stock mkt.

I have an older brother that loves cars but especially enjoys them looking perfect. His cars sit in the garage under covers and look like their brand new. We're taking 2005 corvette coupe with 28K miles and 87 Corvette Pace car with about 50K miles. It has nothing to do with thinking they're investments. He drives each of the cars every week or two on a Saturday and then brings them home and cleans them up.

Thats how he enjoys cars. My cars are nice drivers but nothing compared to his cosmetically.
To each his own.

It's not a car if you don't drive it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5f9725cd2b.jpg

EXACTLY! BTW: Your car is very nice color:cheers: EDIT: sorry, it's a vet... not the F...

Car's are meant to be driven, but some do enjoy them differently
Last 12 months I have driven 16.000km (approx 10.000mi) on my 986 - including several track days and slalom events...

Exactly, it becomes art if not driven.

Good point. We all have different definitions of what brings us enjoyment. At least your brother drives his cars. My LE just turned 70K mi this wk. It's not going to be a trailer queen when Frodo buys it.

Speaking of trailer queens, 5 or so yrs ago there was an 08 GT3 that was for sale with only 300 mi on it. The only miles were from driving it on and off the trailer to show everyone how pristine it was. Poor GT3, it was longing for a few laps on a track.
