Windows suddenly went down part way???

So I’m driving along and all of a sudden both windows went down about four inches all by themselves. And now they won’t go up to close. They will go down and up, but always stop 4” before the top and won’t close all the way.

Any idea why this happened and what I need to do to fix it?

I would roll the windows all the way down... and leave them until the first sign of rain (ZZzzzzzzzz). You're in SoCal... so you've got a while.

In all seriousness... a wiser mind will chime in, and will be correct in a diagnosis.

Have you tried the Google machine?

Most likely the top latch switch. unlatch top and re latch. See if they will close. If does then solution is replace switch or you can place tape on the paddle of the switch the top latch presses against.

Hi Starter. The Google machine is what led me here.

As it turns out I won't need one of those wiser minds unless it happens again. When I got home I tried putting the top down and then back up, and viola! The windows went back up.

I just bought this car from some guy who had it parked on the street with a for sale sign on it. I have owned it 1 month and have put a ton of money into it. It only has 50K miles, but wasn't well taken care of. I thought I was done spending money. Now, mysterious random things start happening, and the first thing I think is, "Well, there goes another thousand dollars..." But it kinda fixed itself, so no emergency. I would like to know what happened though.

Anyway, SoCal weather isn't always great in the summer. I had the top and windows up driving home because it was 95 degrees.

It's kind of turquoise. I don't think it's the original color, because under the hood and a couple other places you can see silver. So I think it was originally silver. But it's a cute color now. I like it.

Correct. He was right on the money.

986chick... you might fiddle with the top latch. Mine got wonky... removed it... effected corrective measure... fixed with no return of problem.

986chick... do you have a garage? Is that MDR?

Latch fiddling will begin today, and see what we find.

Yup, that's MdR in the photo. Nope, I don't live there. Just went a little stir crazy so drove to the marina to have a picnic lunch and watch the boats go by. I do have a garage, but right now the car is in the driveway with a cover on it.

Ya know, the windows did come down when I hit a pretty big bump on the freeway. Must have jarred the latch.
