Changing the cig lighter to a power outlet

2004 Boxster base: my cig lighter appears to have stopped working. I don't smoke but I've been using the plug to run a radar, and back up camera. All the devices are working but the cig lighter. I want to convert the cig lighter to power outlet. I checked the fuse diagram it said c-7 was the fuse for the cig lighter. I looked at the fuse and ran a continuity test on it. It appears ok. Any thoughts?

Welcome!

For instant and professional technical assistance you are required to upload a picture of 1. your Boxster and 2. your GF/wife/ex/second-half/mistress(es). #2 is optional however #1 is mandatory. Thank you.

ps. ensure the connector is properly connected to the back of the cig lighter and/or clean connector's oxidation.

So if the other devices are working, you have power at the cigarette lighter socket. Your issue is the lighter itself. The little coil inside it must be broken and it no longer conducts electricity.

Since you don't smoke, it's not an issue. Keep using the socket to power your accessories as you have been.

Power is off when ignition is off.

My '97 keeps power to the cigarette lighter when the ignition is off.

And both my 2002 Base and 2004 S1

Check fuse D-5
(No longer own a Boxster but my web search engine says various sites say Fuse D-5 is cigar lighter.)

If fuse ok then check plug at back, terminals and wiring w/ a digital multimeter. It's a very simple 'device' so should work as long as power to it.

100% wrong

Cig outlet power is always active in 9x6 & 9x7 platforms (at least for US spec.)

In 981+ I'm told it goes dormant after "x" period of time when car is not used. Suncoast IIRC claims X = 10 days but have never heard confirmation, etc.

Good luck :)
