Car Magazines Disappearing
I apologize for this post not being purely Boxster or Porsche related, but if you're a car enthusiast you may have heard that AutoWeek recently halted its print publication and now, several other magazines including Automobile will be shuttered. Automobile is well known for its founder, David E. Davis, and the magazine's iconic slogans, "Cogito Ergo Zoom (I think therefore I go fast) and "No Boring Cars".
Video may not have killed the radio star but digital is definitely putting the pressure on print. I wonder if Car and Driver and Road & Track will suffer the same fate? TEN Publishing Closes 19 Automotive Magazines Here’s a full list of discontinued magazines:

Things sure do change. I was a long time subscriber to R&T as well as others like C&D and Automobile. Not surprised at the demise of the print format. I can't believe there's any local
newspapers left. Since local car ads went online, newspapers are old and stale. Don't really miss them at all. BTW, you can get the online versions of a hundred plus magazines from Apple for $10/month for all. its called Apple News +. Not pitching the service but my wife tried it and the whole family can access. |
I hope that some of the stalwarts, such as R&T and C&D, can withstand the digital onslaught. I still love "books" too. There's nothing quite like sitting in one's easy chair and cracking open a new volume. Just the smell of newly printed paper adds to the romance of reading a book.
The digital format may be the choice of today's millennial, but like vinyl records, printed media will someday make a comeback. Just sayin'............ TO |

(I've still got a stack of LPs that would probably go 6 ft tall. Still listen to many of them! :) ) |
Are magazines a new app?:D

The digital revolution may be a double edge sword.Unless there's a hard copy any where we are eliminating parts of our history. Actual photographs are being replaced by digital images.

I hated when R&T moved their nice headquarters in Newport beach way up north. I used to test drive the press cars & then deliver to R&T which was 15 minutes from my house. Most of the car magazines went on a severe diet a few years ago & I haven't been buying many. Prices went up & content went down. Even canceled my PCA membership after Pete Stout left. :( |

BTW this fall they are raffling a GT4.. |
Wow, Mustang Monthly surprises me. 😳 I really liked that one. I was a subscriber for 20 years. Every 5 years the would rehash the same thing but it was a great magazine for clasic Mustang owners.

Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car is the one I miss the most. If you never saw it, the content was mostly European sports cars. You can still view most of the past issues on the Hemmings website though.

not surprised at all. Not only is print not popular, but kids these days who are interested in cars (number seems to be shrinking) seem to want to get their information through videos on youtube instead of reading.
I subscribed to R&T and C&D, hemmings, and mustang stuff for years, but really the content is rehashed so often it wasn't that interesting. I get Panorama through my PCA membership and really its total junk. I think I've read like 3 or 4 articles start to finish in 5 years. I actually told them not to send me the magazines anymore but they still do. I guess if I think back to my youth reading about new supercars, it makes me sad that these magazines are going away, but current state, eh, who cares. |

I remember when VW trends stopped print in the early 2000s I was so heartbroken. It was an Aircooled specific magazine that has some pretty awesome builds.
