How do I repair this????New crankcase????

So the area where the upper idler pulley bolts in, has broken away. Not sure how to go about repairing/replacing this problem. I'm willing to put more money into it if it's an easy fix. But I'm at the point where I may sell it as is($3500). Can it be repaired and how long will the repair last?

Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like the broken part is on the alternator, not the engine. If that's the case, it's an easy fix. Replace the alternator.

Alternator mounting points, that can be fixed. But not by the guy that installed the alternator

I agree, the alternator is damaged. Just replace the alternator.

The belt tensioner bracket (PN 99610201603) contains the cradle/sleeve that the alternator bolt sits in, so even if the cradle/sleeve was damaged its not part of the engine block.

With all of that being said, I'll be glad to send $3,500 immediately for your car. :D

Good post Tom... I was looking for a good picture of the alternator earlier when I commented... I forgot all about that video:

That back window needs some help. If nothing else, try using 3M double sided tape to hold it in place with a bead of Window Weld around the edge to give it a good seal.

Thank you

YOUR ALL RIGHT! it's just the alternator ear. I had to take a second look at. I've just been so frustrated with the car and when things go wrong I expect the worst. I came so close selling my Boxster on facebook over an easy repair. Thanks again! :)

Looks like if you could find the right size Metric bolt & washers you could reuse the alternator if its working well. Probably should have it tested while it's off anyway.

I'd like to hear about that crazy rear spoiler setup. Who's idea was that?

I was wondering the same thing. Can you even open the trunk lid with that thing on there. Looks like a German version of a the old dodge roadrunner Daytona

I am very wary of untested aero. It may look good, but can easily have a negative effect on handling. Aero is a system, not just throwing something on a car
