Purchased 2000 S - Looking for interior parts

Hello,

After searching for about a month I purchased a used 2000 S this evening. The car is in pretty good shape except for a few interior trim pieces. The car originally came extremely well optioned. I would like to replace the old tired pieces with NOS or used original parts.

This is where it gets odd... I need to find NOS or Used Carbon Door arm rests and carbon door pull covers. I've tried to locate part numbers for these parts but I have come up blank. I imagine there must be someone selling these but I'm not finding the right search terms.

The parts I'm looking for were optioned under the following code (I think):

XTL - Carbon door panel parts

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Thank you,
Ted

You mean like this: https://niinedesign.com/Carbon-Fiber-Door-Armrest-Cover-fits-Boxster-986-996-986CFDAC.htm

... which took me all of 4.873 seconds to find.

Well sort of... Except that is a film you apply over your existing parts and mine is a carbon fiber part. I'm looking for the original parts, not the film.

Follow this link to the factory parts catalog.

Those parts when new were very rare, very expensive, & not very durable.

Just giving you a lead, Pal. Wasn't going to go hunting it down fer ya. ;)

The film might lead you to the part number... go hunting. Might take a while, but doeable.

Exactly. Not durable at all. Three of my parts are cracked. To be fair... they have lasted 20 years. I shouldn't be so critical. :)

Thanks for the leads guys!

You will have a lot easier time finding leads using the correct XTE code for carbon door panel parts.

Thank you, JRJ!

XTE and XTL are both listed for Carbon door panel parts . Seeing as how I don't have XTL listed on my car, not sure why I picked/gravitated to that item designation. Thanks again for the assist.

I looked into this a bit more and I think I'm going to look into having them repaired. There is no structural damage to them. Just ugly cracks. There is a shop at the airport who specializes in making CF parts for full scale helicopters. I'm going to swing by on the way home and see what they suggest.

perhaps just remove the clearcoat and re-shoot?

It's the epoxy that's broken/cracked. After speaking with one of the tech's I think I have a plan. I'm going to go at it with a drill bit shaped like a ball and carve a groove into the crack. From there I'll sand it all back and feather in the cracks. Then I'll apply a new layer Or really...multiple layers of UV resistant epoxy to the cracks to build up the cracked ares. Once it's all built up then I will sand it down with varying grits util i get to 3000 grit. Finish with buff and polish.

Time consuming? Yes. Less expensive than buying new parts? YOU BET!

Maybe I'll post some photos as I go.

I’d inquire with one of the outfits that can repair carbon fiber bicycle frames. Those guys usually can work wonders.
