Windshield trim
 

Can this trim be replaced leaving the windshield in place? It has dried up and and flaking off. It is just a cosmetic issue, but one I would like to take of correctly. I saw plenty of you tube videos on BMWs and the trim needing to be replaced but have not found anything on boxsters. And the BMW ones i saw were for the softer material between the glass and paint, I did not see anything with this hard piece that is flacking off on mine. Anyone else out there seen this issue?

I think it can be done, but I'm not sure.
I would like to get mine replaced, too...will ask the PORSCHE guys early November, if nobody hops in here by then.

Good article as my S also has the crappy looking trim . The problem with painting the trim is mine is rough to the touch because of cracks and small pieces of the finish missing . So for it to look good it would have to be sanded and filled in , not easy to do on something only a 1/4 " wide x the length AND not damage the rubber .

Or... you could just call a couple of the local auto dealers and ask to whom do they outsource their windshield installs. Then you check Yelp reviews... then you phone the shop and ask how much $$ to R&R that seal.

Paint it!
 

Prepping and painting the narrow trim piece may be easier than you think. If you're careful, you should be able to remove (and reuse) the rubber seal. With that out of the way you could mask both sides of the trim so you would be able to sand and paint it without risk of damaging the rubber bit, the windshield or the paint.

I was able to replace the trim on my car so I guess that's proof that it can be done but frankly I don't recommend it...

I don't have a picture but I just scraped the peeling finish off and left it as the black rubber finish. Looked much better then the in-fashion antique peel look.

See (3) M008 means S. Titanium silver is the color name (also for your radiator grilles)
