I can't say that I "know" it will work, but based on the work I did swapping a 996 cluster into my car: http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/43017-carrera-gauge-swap.html I think it is likely to work for a cluster with the older-style lcd displays. I have not worked on the newer-style dot matrix display.
The U.S. spec clusters can be set to read in kilometers. This suggests that Porsche used one cluster for all the cars.
