Another Spacer Question
 

Hi ...I recently installed ECS 20mm spacers to the rear wheels of my 2001 Boxster base.
The spacers are perfect on all counts.
I have oem 17 inch wheels with 205/50/17 tires. I now wish to install spacers on the front wheels...i tried the 20mm spacer but it rubbed on the wheel well on maximum turning position.
Could someone please advise the size of the spacers i should go with in front.

I run 13mm, but I'm a 225 on the front.

What difference does a 225 and 205 make wrt the spacer size...newbie here...thanks

I run 15 mm spacers all the way around on my ‘04 S with no rubbing issues.

My 225 tire is 20mm wider than your 205. So you may have up to 10mm more room than I do, before it rubs, depending on where it runs and under what conditions.

I run 20 rear, 15 front. Still waiting for someone to trade me my 15mm ECS with bolts for a pair of 23s. :cheers::cheers:

You could have your fenders rolled. No? That should give you room. Or, just run with the 15's. It works.

What size wheel spacers do I want to run if I have 275/40 ZR17 98W on the rear and 245/40 ZR17 91W on the front? And what about lug nuts? Thanks.

Rob, please be aware that you Will need longer lug nuts if you use wheel spacers and I would not go too wild as the spacers definitely tax your hub bearings and even if these are easy to replace them, the job is Not a fun one..

I think I will check with my mechanic first.
I never considered what the effect will be on the wheel bearings and the hubs.
Does anyone who has had wheel spacers on for any length of time care to chime in with their experience? Thanks.

Rob, the wear will be on the wheel bearings as you would be increasing the load on them, these are not to expensive but are a bear to remove from the hubs..
The longer lug nuts are to compensate the extra thickness of the spacers (as you need to have a minimum amount of threads to be safe), usually the companies that sell the spacers also offer the longer lug nuts.

However, when my 987 died I remove the spacers (7mm and 15mm) and put them on the 981, because they just look great :p

I'm running stock 16 wheels... so not the widest tire. I've 15mm fronts and 20mm rears for ~4 years... and no noise from either axle. I'd been looking to bring the rear out a few more mm, even posting earlier about a trade/swap.

However, I'm going to take my neighbor's advice (Gilles) about going too wide... and leave well enough alone. I've seen some videos of wheel bearing replacement... and I'm not going there. ;)

I have a pair of 18mm ECS spacers if anyones interested in buying them.. ran them on my old wheels, didn't fit my current set. Gently used, in perfect working order.

PM me if anyones interested. Does not include the extended bolts, I still used those on the car.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but the owners manual mentions 19mm (I think) spacers on the rear wheels as a factory option, and I have seen these Porsche spacers for sale. This led me to think that while that spacers do change suspension geometry (and hence wear), they were factored into the design at least somewhat when the cars were put together. I've got 15 up front and 25s on rear and they're been there for 4 years / 20k miles without issue.

Thanks for mentioning that. I noticed that a website was selling Porsche Branded Spacers for Boxsters, but they were sold out and back ordered. So the engineers must have considered these ti be deemed ok.
