Brake Fluid Replace
 

Hi All, Just confirming that I CAN replace my brake fluid by using the Motive Pressure Bleeder on my 99 Boxster Base WITH TC (Traction Control), I've heard conflicting info regarding having to open valves in control unit w PTS2 and then some saying if you're bleeding after the control unit its fine. I just did my 99 with traction control without messing with the ABS or TC valves. Everything works fine.

If you are buying a new Motive power bleeder make sure you check that it works before you start. The new one I bought had a blockage in the suction tube that goes into the reservoir. I ended up having to cut the hose clamp off and use a small drill bit to clean out the tube. Of course I found the blockage once the car was in the air on jack stands ready to go and after I had put fluid in the tank.

I emailed Motive about the issue and never heard a peep out of them. I would have sent it back for warranty if I hadn't already had the car ready to go for it's fluid change. I didn't want to button everything up and start over again weeks later.

The product works well, but I'm a bit bitter they ignored me completely.

Oh well, good tip anyway.

One other unsolicited suggestion....Use your Motive dry, just to apply a little pressure (10-15 psi) to the brake MC. You will not run your reservoir dry if you check it after you do each corner. The pluses to this method is not cleanup and no worries about spraying brake fluid (bad hose or cap).

The other plus is that your motive hoses wont go bad either. Had to replace all of mine with new hoses. The dry method is much better and works great.

When using the Motive dry....How do you fill the MC if its getting low? Just close off the corner you're working on , relieve the pressure, add fluid and pump it up again and move to next corner. Its not east just to run denatured alcohol thru the Motive for cleanup. Paranoid about getting air in my lines!! V

Great question...nobody wants to .run the MC dry!!
Thing is, the whole process is kind of slow and even if by yourself, you'll be fine. Flushing one corner will NOT empty your MC unless you've gone in the house for beer and bad TV. If you're really worried, which all of us are the first time, do a corner for 30-45 seconds, close the bleeder and check the MC level. I'm confident that you can bleed a corner to your satisfaction and then check and top off MC before heading to the next corner.

When you need add additional fluid, just unscrew motive from MC, add fluid, connect motive and pump back up before doing the next corner.

I do Do passenger side rear, drivers side rear, passenger front and lastly drivers front, going from longest path to shortest.

do one wheel, fill up the mc, move to next wheel. It is really very simple and doesn't take any time. once you do 2 wheels it gets even easier and quicker. I have done 40+ cars this way, takes me longer to get a car on the lift then bleeding the brakes.

Got this from Pedro's Garage. Might help to load up Motiv properly and keep from running dry.
Right Rear R/R = 350 mL = 11 Oz
Left Rear L/R = 150 mL = 5 Oz
Right Front R/F = 250 mL = 8.4 Oz
Left Front L/F = 100 mL = 3.3 Oz
Clutch Slave 100 mL = 3.3
