AM Radio Reception

Hi All
Can I get responses from owners with CDR220 regarding AM radio? My FM is fine, and radio works well for the most part, but is strongly jammed by radiation, i.e. electric busses and trucks with telemetry transmitters, not to mention fringe reception. I've done the grounding screw sanding the paint on the antenna booster in the PS A pillar, and it does cut out if I unplug it. Is this typical of this radio. My car is a '99.
Reason I ask is I want to replace the head with a modern one with USB to listen to my mixes, but I listen to AM talk often. Should I replace the antenna booster? Can you guys chime in on what model head you'd recommend for my car?

TIA

I had a very similar problem with my CDR220, only it was FM that gave the trouble. I ended up replacing the CDR with an aftermarket Pioneer, and the problem was solved.

However, I hated the disco-light show aspect of the Pioneer, so I recently replaced it with one of the Continental units with the Bergvill FX wiring harnesses. You can find a link to those using the search function. The Continental head unit looks, works, and sounds great, and the one time' I've listened to AM, it was just fine.

This Pioneer also works well. Replaced my CDR23. Download an app on your phone and it connects by Bluetooth. The phone becomes the touch screen interface for it. The colours match very well and the app on the phone can also be set to a white and orange theme. Cost €100 and an easy install in my non Bose 2003 car.

PROS:
well balanced, plain symetrical Looks
super light compared to double DIN and older single DIN
most recent features of nowadays cars
quality Brand product = Quality Sound, no complaints at all

CONS:
Radio stations handling could be improved
DAB+ would be nice
Front parking sensor support missing

As you can see...complaining on a very high satisfaction Level

Every now and then I like to raise my blood pressure and I listen to talk radio on am.
There are lots of apps that stream every kind of station imaginable, I gave up on trying to
get am reception in The Box. And I live in a big city.
