pilot bearing
anyone notice the price discrepancy between pilot bearings on the pelican site:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/1046/POR_1046_TCLUTC_pg3.htm#item16 from $8 to $80. ebay has sachs and luk at around $40. which one to buy? |

Yes, buy from Porsche. The part works better if you pay $50 for that $0.01 label.
Everyone knows that Porsche makes the best bearings...and labels. :D |
It’s often worth calling Porsche parts department to see about a price. Sometimes the prices are ridiculous but other times very reasonable when you consider added duties and taxes (TRK is in Canada). Calling is free, even at Porsche!

i got a spec clutch kit from pelican. it was supposed to be for 996 AND 986. it came with a 996 pilot bearing only. after the pain i went through with pelican trying to convince them that the clutch alignment tool is different for the 5- and 6- speed transmissions, i don't have the patience to get back into it with them on this (especially if the best i could expect is for them to ship me the $8 part when, in the case of something deep in the engine that you don't want to frequently revisit, you want oem or equivalent). i think jfp is right on the money - "unlike pelican, porsche actually sends what i ask for".
