Rear Thump

I can't put my thumb on it. I have an 01, 40K Miles and I keep hearing a thump in the rear when I go over bumps. Is it the convertible top, rear suspension? Or something else?

Thoughts?

Most likely your rear lower control arm bushings. unfortunately they're not replaceable, you'd have to buy new arms.

No; not to my knowledge. Bought the P car from brother in law with only 37K miles 2 years ago

The sad part is that with the LCA bushings and the Center Motor Mount, you can't tell if they're bad until you removed them.

My money is still on the LCAs I mentioned on my prior post. I had the same noise where I couldn't tell if it was suspension or the convertible top frame. I did some research and found that they were common culprits so I changed them and noise gone! Although now I'm starting to get some noise from the fronts...

The rubber center on mine was completely gone at 47000 miles.
I heard dull clunks when I would slowly go over speed bumps
If the problem is your center motor mount you can sort of feel it when you let out the clutch or went taking off from a dead STOP.

98-3/4% confident it's not motor mount.

I am leaning towards the LCAs as the source.

Could it also be the drop links?

Blackcloud 08-23-2019 01:45 PM

Probably rear track arms. If you replace do the drop links to. I did, and it solved the problem. The bushings wear out over time.

Turns out the rear clunk/thump noise was from the rear storage cabin. One of the locking nuts/screw was loose and rear cabin was making the thumping noise through bumps...Ha!

Lucky you!:)
