Remove Rennline shift knob
Any suggestions on how to remove my rennline shift knob. It was a tight fit when installing and had to use a mallet to press it on. Now I'd like to remove it to work on the shifter/shift boot but the knob is not letting go. I already attempted to deadlift it off while standing above with the top off but still no go.

Isn’t there a set screw?

If it was a press-on installation, then its a pull off removal. I'd make a "tool" from wood that fits around the shaft and then take the mallet and pound upward.

I would assume that it had a plastic or rubber insert to help it lock into the notch on the shaft.
Maybe try heating up the entire knob with a blow dryer or heat gun (carefully) to soften the bind. |
Not enough material was removed from inside the shift knob so i had to press fit it on with a mallet to seat it low enough to get the shift boot to wrap around the knobs lower base. Yes it uses set screws but in my case they're redundant since i had to press the knob on.
Good advice I'll mock something up. |
