Broken push rod cup
Plastic push rod cup on driver side of top broke off. Has anyone used the Pelican metal cup replacements? Sure looks like a better idea. And cheaper than a whole new arm. Now if only I could get the top up until the parts arrive.

It is NOT a better idea. If somethings jams you would much rather have a plastic cut break than have a much more expensive part of the mechanism bend or break.
If the cup broke there's a reason. Check the mechanism and fix the underlying cause. |
Good point. I think I'll take it in for an estimate. Over my pay grade.

What year? My '01 had that happen, they will wear out, so you may be lucky. If you replace yourself make sure the arm is same length as the one you are replacing. Then watch that the top is going up/down evenly on both sides.

I think there is something else wrong. As the other gentleman said I think it's a symptom of another problem. It goes halfway up then sort of grinds to a halt. When I put it down I hear some clunking noise in the rear. I made an appointment with a good indy guy for an estimate tomorrow. I'll try a lot of things but convertible tops kind of scare me. I'm leery of the damage I can do. $$$$$$

Just say no to metal, in this case.

It’s possible the plastic gear in one (or both) of the roof transmissions has cracked. That can cause jamming. Gear replacements are available as well.

Just a follow up. I took it to my indie place and he replaced both pushrod arms (nylon cup) removed and re aligned the top. No damage to the transmission. Added bonus, I don't have to put my arm out the window to guide the top into the channel.
