End of the Boxster road for me
The 2000 Boxster S has found a new home in Maine as someone's vacation home car. I hope he has a garage for it. :)
Anyhow, I have learned a lot here and wanted to say thanks to all of you that have either help me or walked me off the ledge at times. I can only imagine how much you guys have saved me in $. Car goes tomorrow afternoon, and I supposedly get the new (to me) wheels tomorrow night. I actually got a PPI on this one. Got real lucky on Box. Again, thank you all for your wisdom and guidance. Good luck to you all in your car adventures. David |

Is there another Porsche in your future plans?
|
Yes, a Guards Red 2002 996 4S.
I wanted to get more GT ish. I felt with the Boxster, it just says drive fast when ever a curve presents itself. I was either going to kill myself, someone else, get a ticket or get frustrated not pushing it. I tend to do a lot of highway driving so thought it might be a better fit. Plus I've had for over 4 years. Thought I would mix it up. I think the hardtop might help my sanity with road noise too. About car: Car had an excellent PPI, has a scratch I need to tough up and I'm doing the IMS on Monday. I wasn't going to bother but it seems like a good candidate. The last owner was a 83 year old guy who bought in 2006 and only put 13k on it during that time. Previous owner racked up 55k in 4 years. Funny, the guy left to his daughter. The daughter husband wanted to keep it and she gave that the big "no". Wish me luck. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/9961561571337.jpg |
This is the car. During the test drive the Porsche dealership was the first place we came across that had shape.

Congrats on the sale and the purchase.
Be careful with the 996. I've only owned 1 911 - a 996 cab. It insulates your sensation of speed and it's VERY easy to be driving along, look at your speedo and see you're going 15 over. The Boxsters and Caymans give you more of a sensation of speed. Maybe the only way to calm you down on the street is to take it to the track. ;) |

Congratulations and enjoy it! You shouldn't be a stranger around here and besides, there are enough similarities and common parts between the 986 and 996.
|
Good point PaulE. Thanks JayG, I will do that.
|
Safe travels sir.

Congrats on your sale and purchase! I did same last May....Sold a 2000S and bought 2003 996 cab with 66K miles and a crap load of receipts, including RMS, IMS and clutch 500 miles before my purchase.
So far so good! |
Sorry to see you leave the Forum but congrats on the sale and the new ride!
I loved my 996 and it was a blast to own. I certainly didn't drive the 996 any slower than my Boxster. That 320hp is awful nice to have on tap and it seemed like such a waste not dipping into it often. :) About 90% of what you learned about a Boxster is applicable to the 996. Just remember that the engine mounts are now in the back and the trans mounts are in the front! |
Some buyer gifts. He's new to a Porsche so I think he will enjoy the reads.

It is on paper but is it? It doesn't feel it.
Several factors came into my results: I just wanted a change after 4+ years. I found I am not a convertible person. Friend has a Cayman S so I've had my fill of those that I don't need one (though they are wonderful cars). I think the Box is built for the curves and I have no where to enjoy that thrill. I don't track, I can barely afford the cars, never mind racing. I've always loved the looks of the 996 4S though the red I still need to get use to. Not getting any younger. Anyhoot, should be fun. Time will tell. |
Congrates, my favorite color on the 996.

Enjoy the new ride and don't be a stranger. Your 996 is really just a 3.6L hard top Boxster with the motor in the wrong place. :)
After 10 years with the 986 I too decided to get a hard top for the next one. Ninety percent of the time I am glad I did but those magical summer canyon drives were more fun top down. |
I just ran up to Ice house Canyon and back with the top down and I agree. Get's you out of the heat and into nature.

I think the 996 4S is the best looking 911 ever.
This is sacrilege but I've never been a fan of VW head lights on a Porsche. It seemed like the Turbo headlights was a step forward just like modern design made it's way to headlights on the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. But 911 fans are very stuck in their ways. Now they're paying out the wazoo for a souped up love bug that leaks oil on their driveway. |
