Stuff like this is too easy to forget.
I sourced a second one.
Now I hang wheels on two guide pins.
Gone is the balancing act and the likelihood of caliper paint damage trying to keep the wheel and hub lined up as you put in that first wheel bolt.

Stud kits go on all of my cars and are so worth it. I HATE lugnuts with a passion, I think it was the early years of wrenching on VWs that bred this hatred. If VWs had come with this wheel hanger maybe I’d tolerate it better but in the end I think studs save so much time even for mundane projects.

From the new owner side, thank you. BMW also has a locating pin in some of the tool kits. I totally forgot about this when I took a wheel off to replace a center cap. Now I have the "brake check" light on so I'm guessing I knocked the sensor when trying to replace the wheel.

Best post in a long time! I owned my 2003 Boxster S for 6 years now and had no idea about this tool. Particularly since I put on spacers it’s been pure hell getting that first bolt in. Thank you ttt. Just been out behind the spare wheel, and right enough, there it is - made my day!

I have one, I know what it is, I still rarely use it.
Maybe if I had two of them, but with one the wheel can still spin on the stud and whack my painted rotors. I just lift it up with both hands and push it onto the hub, it is usually secure enough once it's pushed on to take your time fitting the lugs.
