Vinyl Wrap
I'm starting to look at a bit of vinyl wrap. Considering a wrap on just the frunk lid. First quote came in at $350, one color, matte finish.
Since I'm new to this I don't know if that's good or bad. it sounds high to me. Anybody with experience on this topic that could provide insight would be appreciated. |
worry more about buying the installer not the price and you'll be much happier...
Good luck :) |
A complete car wrap can easily run a couple thousand dollars, so $350 for the frunk lid doesn't seem completely unreasonable.
If you think about it, there are 10 major panels on a Boxster: two front fenders, two rear fenders, two doors, frunk lid, rear lid, and then front and rear valence (between the fenders). I know that they're not all exactly the same but a lot of body shops think of them this way. $350 per panel x 10 panels = $3,500 which is in the ball park for a good wrap job. As Burg mentioned, its worth the money to pay a bit more to find an installer who knows what he's doing and will stand behind the work once its done rather than just go for the lowest price. What color is your car and what color wrap are you considering for the frunk? |
The front lid looks easy to wrap. Without some skills it’s not, at least to make it look good. The compound radius’s make it a challenge. 350.00 is not a bad price to have it done.

Boxster is Arctic Silver and looking to do a matte gray just slightly darker than the OEM paint. |
I wouldn't bother personally. They never look like you want them to look (ie a carbon fibre hood) or whatnot. If you're doing the boot, I'd much rather stick some viper stripes over it and the back.

I wrap cars for a living...not going to say that $350 is absurd
but I would figure it would be closer to $200. Honestly it would take a competent installer about 20-30 minutes to do the whole job...the hardest part would be removing the hood badge. I would highly advise using Avery SW900 or 3M 1080. I prefer the avery personally but they both are good films. The material comes in 60" rolls and runs just under $30 a yard for the more common colors. $3500 for a wrap would be pretty high for a boxster unless it was one of the more expensive film finishes...we usually charge around $3500 for a full size truck though pricing does vary around the country. FWIW I just finished wrapping my dad's Z3 and it cost a little less than $350 in materials to do a complete color change. What people don't realize is that there is a lot of work involved in disassembling the car and prepping it to do the job correctly. You can easily spend half a day or more removing molding, weatherstripping, badges, etc.
