not sure scanning is going to help you here, my transmitter doesn't work (needs to be programmed) and the car beeps twice also.
Something else to consider. Durametric marries the car and there is a significant cost to each VIN. It isn't like borrowing a wrench from someone.
If you are keeping the car and intend on troubleshooting things yourself, buy the tool.
