where did you get this...girlfriends birthday coming up, that would make a nice gift and she would think of me every fill up!

Finnegan 04-29-2019 04:25 PM

Super fancy! Also, your car is the correct color!

Boxtaboy 04-29-2019 04:27 PM

Thanks guys!...

@tonythetiger- I actually got it as a gift myself. I have a 2007 Carrera S Cab though, and the part# on this gas cap is 997 201 980 00. I’m pretty sure it fits on the Boxster too though. Check with one of the parts sellers like Pelican or Suncoast.

In NJ we don't pump our own gas, it's against the law as it's too dangerous. A few years ago, they thought about changing the law. The gas stations said prices wouldn't go down because their insurance cost would increase. Then people realized they would have to pump their own gas in rain and snow, and the idea of changing the law was dropped.

It is a great looking gas cap though, your girlfriend should like it!

I drive to NJ around once a year and I am always amazed how low the gas prices are compared to PA, even though you still have 'full service' and we have to pump our own.

I'm sure the gas stations used PA as an example in their argument!

Pricing is all about state gas tax. We are in NW FL. Head about an hour north into Alabama and gas is always .10-.15 cheaper.

It's funny how it's too dangerous to pump gas in NJ but not the rest of the country. Go figure.

Thats cause you arrive to the back woods, in north Alabama we went to southern Tn. Where it was cheaper! Lol

Growing up in NY and then moving to NJ, I was not used to having someone pump my gas, but got used to it after a while and appreciated it more in the winter months like Paul said when it was cold out. However, one time, a gas attendant carelessly swung the gas pump handle very hard against my rear quarter panel (luckily it was my SUV, and not the Porsche), and left a deep paint chip. I was not pleased. Still, I’m used to not pumping the gas now, and will let the attendant check out the cool gas cap here in Jersey each time I have to fill up. Lol.

My wife, kids never know anything else. We go on a road trip and they wonder what the hell I'm doing pumping gas.

In NJ attends don't fill motorcycles. That you have to do your self.

(2) things I hate about pump your own.
1 - All the extra steps to pay cash. Go into the store and pay an estimate of what you need, Fill up, go back in to get change
2 - I have to do a serious wash of my hands afterwards

I don't think it's a safety thing as much as it's a job creation thing

Ridiculously overpriced. Ridiculous. That's what I want to do: Impress the attendant.

I was joking about impressing the attendant. As I mentioned before, this was a gift to me by a friend, so it cost me nothing, but I think it’s an awesome gift. Is it worth the $150? Prob not, but so many other things from Porsche are ridiculously pricey as well. If this was provided by Porsche as standard equipment for all their cars (which I think should be the case), perhaps you wouldn’t complain, as it does look better than the stock cap. ;)

Cash? That's what debit cards are for! Much quicker.
Are you spilling gas on yourself? Are you using Diesel? Why would you need to wash your hands? Many stations now have cleaning wipes at the pump.

I was just pulling your chain. I've looked at the caps... they are a nice detail. I wish I had friends like yours! Or, mo money.

My fuel door lock is wonky, and I haven't yet pulled the wheel... removed the liner... and gotten up under there to repair it. Likely I'll be scouting that cap when the repair is completed. ;)

Cheers!

Gotcha...I don’t blame you for thinking it’s a rip off cause it is! But it does look sweet, so I’m not complaining. :)

The gas tax in NJ went up an extra $0.23 per gallon on November 1, 2016, it was a lot cheaper before that! The money is supposed to fund rail and road projects, which are certainly needed. The NJ gas attendants are a strange lot. I once had one tell me that I put the gas cap on too tightly the last time, as if it was me that did it and not the last attendant who fueled me! You definitely need to keep an eye on them if you have a nice car!

The test of any NJ gas attendant is if they figure out and use the hook on the gas lid to hang the gas cap lanyard on.

I’m just happy if they don’t smack the cap against the fender. Lol

The weight reduction in your wallet is definitely good for +10hp! ;)

I cut the tether off, my original gas cap didn't have one. I place the cap upside down on the cowl, there is a cutout for the gas cap right there (or at least that what I think it's for).
