Very shoddy accounting by the dealership. Saw a different article (might have been on PCA) that said there were plenty of red flags that something was going on but the dealership never bothered to check. Sad, but easy to see how it can happen - scammers work on people's trust and greed to separate them of their $$$.
As noted in the comments, this guy will get a slap on the hand and be done with his time in the hole very quickly. Happens all the time on American Greed. The customers will be left holding the bag, the dealership can only do so much and will suffer bad publicity but not a lot of financial loss, and the perp lives the high life until caught, does a small amt of time, and moves on to the next scam. If he was smart and squirrelled some of the money into a 'safe' place, he'll have a nest egg ready when he gets out.

Sad for the customers who were scammed, but the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is applies here. Imagine wanting to buy some highly sought after, limited edition Porsche that is impossible to buy and finding someone at a dealership ready, willing and able to help you out! You want it so badly and then there is someone at the dealership, he has all the paperwork with a name that sounds like the dealership's name and a good backup story to tell you why the deposit amount is so large and you're paying the money to that company if you even bother to ask.

OMG yes!! Me too. My new Carmine Red Boxster is an eye catcher but so was Diana Rigg. I was a late teen in undergraduate school when the Avengers ran and she had my undivided attention. I don't generally support off topic posts but she was very special and certainly not at all forgotten. She is 80 now, wow! I guess it shows my age now too comparing this exceptional gorgeous hot woman to a piece of machinery, albeit a Porsche of course.

Yeah, no kidding. For adolescent, red-blooded, coming of age guys there was pretty much nothing not to love about Diana Rigg..

She was also Mrs. Peele with a Lotus Elan in the tv series The Avengers. And for the under 50 members, she still looked great in her cameo as Elizabeth Hurley's mother in the first Austin Powers movie.

Sorry, Mrs. Kensington was played by Mimi Rogers, not Diana Rigg. The character was a parody of Mrs. Peel from the Avengers who was played by Diana Rigg.

BTW, Mimi Rogers was Tom Cruise's first wife. Coincidently Cruise played Austin in the film within film, 'Austinpussy'.
