Coolant reservoir tank leak??
 

About once a year I need to add about 1 cup of 50/50 water and coolant to the reservoir in my 98' Boxster. After driving the car I place a piece of cardboard under the passenger rear wheel and usually see 3 small drops (about the sized of a quarter each) of coolant stain the cardboard as the car cools down. So I know I have a leak.

I've read lots of posts on this forum and have 2 questions.....IF it's a leak in the reservoir tank will the trunk ALWAYS show signs of coolant under the carpet? Secondly, since my reservoir tank is filled to the max level mark, could it be filled TOO MUCH and dripping out of the overflow hose? Should I remove some of the tanks coolant?

I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

That small of a leak is likely bad o-rings in the bleeder valve.

Do you have condensation on the underside of the trunk lid, directly above the Oil/Coolant caps?

There’s no condensation in the trunk above where the coolant cap is. I assume that IF there was it could be an indication of a bad cap. I changed out the cap two years ago after reading this forum so that’s not the issue.
Coincidentally, today after driving for an hour, and placing the cardboard underneath again...... there wasn’t even one drop of coolant......... go figure! The mystery continues ....... lol.

Based on JFP's advice to replace it while the engine is out, I bought a new PCAR coolant tank which is now next on my task list. Need advice on the hoses. 2001 S has 165K so should these be replaced or is that not necessary?
