Headlamp switch replace

My headlamp switch has been acting up. I purchased a new one. After looking at the 101 projects book and the Bentley manual I thought I had it covered. I removed the housing per instructions. I removed the big 24mm nut. There is a sleeve that is supposed to slide out a 1/4 inch which allows you to rotate the switch and pull it out the back side. My sleeve is frozen in place. It almost seems like its been glued or something. If you cannot slide that out you cannot rotate the switch. Anyone have any experience with this issue. 2002 S with leather on the dash so you also have to be very careful so as not scratch the leather ask me how I know that.

Are you referring to the bezel?
Did you remove the hidden torx screw (yellow arrow)?

Yes I removed the yellow arrow screw. Then I pulled the assembly out of the dash. Next I removed the big nut what the 101 project book does not explain is you now have to slide the brezel out about a quarter inch and twist the switch to remove it. My brezel is frozen and doesn't budge. I found some utube video that really explain the process.

In the Bentley manual on page 94-6 is a photo of my dilemma . It says slide switch faceplate approx. 5mm(1/4) out of vent, then turn switch body slightly counterclockwise to remove. My switch faceplate is frozen in place, no sliding . If you can't slide you can't rotate the switch as the faceplate sort of locks it in place. Its almost if it was glued in at some point. Gluing is not needed as the big nut holds it in place. Anyone ?

Yeah, I see that. I'm not sure about their instructions, but mine slides all the way out with zero resistance.

Could be that something sticky got spilled on it or a previous owner did glue it. Use a bigger hammer.
