Top Cable problems

Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum, as I just bought a 97' Boxster about 3 weeks ago. Love the car, and have found a lot of useful information here..thanks! My problem is this. When raising the top, I noticed that it would not fully reach the latching postion. I looked at the top, and noticed that a cable had slipped out of its grove and was ridding on the track. The cable is at about the 1/2 way point on the top, right at the main collapsing spot. Anyone have issues with this. I can lower the top a bit, slip the cable into the grove, and she raises just fine. I just dont want the have to get out of the car everytime I raise the top. It also seems to happen on both sides. Please help.

I have the same problem on my 97... I raise the roof to about 4 inches from the top touching the front windshield and take my fingers and run it the plastic covered wire into the plastic guides around the windows, then finish the top raising. No getting out of the car is required.

They get old and stretch a little, and you will also find the elastic on the inside that pulls the cables inward is stretched beyond repair.

Save up and get a glass top replacement and this will all go away, as well as the requirement to get out and "chop" the plastic window so it doesn't kink up.
