987 6 speed gear shift knob removal

Anyone know if there is a trick to removing the shift knob on a 987? My 986 I know just pulled off with a little effort. The 987 just doesn't seem to move at all. Am I missing something, or just getting weak in my old age?? Oi need to change out my shift boot, but the knob is holding things up.

Yeah, the shifter is the same, noticed the little twist of the boot, must be a bit of a lock? Just don’t hit yourself in the face...

Yep, you have to twist the collar of the boot 90* clockwise and then pull like a mother, esp if the shifter has never been off before. If it's a boxster, you may need to put the top down and then straddle the shifter to get the most leverage.

Opposite to put back on. Slide shifter on the shaft, make sure it's all the way on, then twist the collar 90* counter-clockwise.
