Winter storage battery charger

First year owning a Boxster. I'm storing the car for a couple of month through the winter. Do I need a battery charger? How long can you store before the charger is required?

I think you should use this for storage periods in excess of one month:

Go to your local Harley-Davidson store and ask for a Battery Tender Jr. About 40 bucks. Not a trickle charger, but a true battery maintainer.

I have the Battery Tender Jr for my Harley and it works well.

Keep in mind, if you plan to use this for the Boxster you will have to connect it directly to the battery, not plug it into the cigarette lighter like bmussatti's link.

I like the fact that the passenger side door has a notch to accommodate the wire from the charger to the power outlet on the wall.

Hope this helps...

Thanks,

Nick

Why can't you plug it in? It has a cigarette attachemnt. If the voltage is the same, what's the difference.

Because the battery tender jr does not have a cigarette attachment :

Nick, we have a notch in the door? Really. Cool. Can you post a picture? I'll look at mine when I get home this weekend.

bmussatti,

From the PCA Tech Q&A :

"There is actually a cutout on the bottom of the drivers door for the wiring for the trickle charger to go thru."

http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id={80AA6398-4F9E-454F-9AA2-DEA111D68660}

I went in the garage and took a picture with my cell phone. It looks like both the driver and passenger door have the cutout ( see pic ).

I read this in the owner's manual.

Not sure you have this on the 2006 ( I have a 1999 ).

Hope this helps...

Nick

Thanks, Nick. I'll take a look this weekend. Unless some of the other 987 owners already know the answer.
