Instrument cluster swapout

Hey, found a nice 2002 Boxster S cluster with the white faces and it reads 175mph and mine is 150mph. Will this pose a problem swapping or will it not matter since it is electrical instead of cable driven? I am planning to change over to brighter led illumination for night driving instead of the dull orange as well.

Based on my experience which you can read about here:
http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/43017-carrera-gauge-swap.html
I think the reading on the analog speedometer will be off a few mph. I think most of us look at the digital read out anyway. I am assuming that you will just swap the gauge faces and trim rings from one cluster to the other. Swapping in the entire cluster without programming it will cause your odometer and VIN to be inaccurate.

Also be aware that there are two different styles of 986 clusters and they don’t interchange. What year is your car?

Mine is a 2004 and the cluster is from an 02. I read about having the vin and odometer programmed into a unit on rennttech website if that would pose a problem.

The 2002 and 2004 both use the newer type of cluster. You may also want to check this article on Pelican for additional information: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/90-ELEC-996_Cluster/90-ELEC-996_Cluster.htm

Good luck with your project.
