Are 2000 - 2004 986's the Fastest 2.7 Liter Boxsters?

I recently read the the Consumer Report article on the Porsche 911 that said the Boxster was almost as good as the 911 for a lot less money. That prompted me to re-read their articles on the Boxster. (They rated the 1997, 2002 and 2005 models. The 02 and 05 models were both 2.7 liter cars.)

I noted the following data:

Acceleration 0-60 mph: 2002-6.2 seconds; 2005-6.5 seconds
Acceleration 45-65 mph: 2002-4.2 seconds; 2005-4.4 seconds

Maximum speed, accident avoidance manuver: 2002-58.5 mph; 2005- 57.5 mph

Curb Weight: 2002 - 2960 lbs; 2005 -3015 lbs

I realize that those differences aren't that significant, but I thought the increase in horsepower from 217 to 240 would have favored the 2005. I've never driven a 987 so I was wondering if anyone with significant experience in both cars could confirm that test data.

The drivers who test for consumer reports either can't shift worth a damn or they are babying the cars and not launching the car. 6.5 sec to 60 for a 987? Come on, my grandma could get better results. The real 0-60 of a 987 is more like 5.7 seconds.

I would think that the driving style would be the same in both tests. So the results - though not optimal - would at be usable to make valid comparisons between the two cars.
