CEL Codes

Well, I know it's only Tuesday, but it's time for my stupid question of the week.

My instrument cluster went haywire, and when I removed it, the CEL was not illuminated. When I replaced it with a rebuilt cluster, I noticed that the CEL was on. The car at been sitting idle for around 60 days before I replaced the cluster. After driving the car a couple of times, I noticed that the CEL turned off.

I don't know if a low battery would cause the CEL to illuminate, but whatever caused it to turn on seems to no longer be an issue.

My question is, can I assume the code would still be stored in the DME so I can determine what caused it to illuminate in the first place?
