Better than 50% chance that you should replace the flywheel as well
stay with the dual mass flywheel and not a lightweight flywheel

why couldn't i turn it? the SACHS flywheel is 500 bucks, that seems excessive

The flywheel is used to balance the engine .it is not your typical flywheel it is a two piece assembly that is spring loaded against the two parts .

So, I answered my own question and will talk about it.

Its a dual-mass flywheel with some "action" to it, resurfacing might restore the wear surface, but that shuddering could be my flywheel giving extra, and now that I think about it, that is EXACTLY what it feels like.
