Start in section 809-05 (mahogany), though it seems yours may be rootwood (burlwood).

I found an image of a rootwood bezel, and it is darker and solid. Mine appears to be Mahogany, and my build sheet reflects that. However, I don't think I'll be paying upwards of $400 for one.

But they are all fake plastic, right?
I wonder if it is cheaper to have someone fab out of real wood.

Nope, they’re real wood veneer.

If yours are structurally sound, what about having them dipped (hydrographic)? I've seen some pretty impressive dipped products, but have never had any done for myself.

Check out some MB and older Jag forums for DIY or ad sponsor for specialty shops who do this kind of R&R. There are many. Had a couple 380SLs back in the day and every so often would have to refinish pieces due to cracking from exposure.

Now you got me thinking! I have a factory mahogany/ leather steering wheel and a custom 917-style mahogany wood shifter to match with...

I saw an episode of How It's Made on Velocity Channel about a current Bentley model and they showed how that real wood veneer is sliced so thinly and then molded over the underlying plastic piece and finished. It was cool to see how they do it.
