Check Engine - fuel vapor sensor code

Had my local mechanic check codes. He said it’s a voltage error fuel vapor sensor. Does that sound right and how difficult is it to replace?

I already disconnected battery and code came back.

What is the code?

He didn’t say

There's no such thing as a "fuel vapor sensor" on these cars, which is why I asked.
I suppose he could mean the tank pressure sensor.

You should ask for the code. Alternatively, you can go to an auto parts store and ask them to read the code (free) or buy a cheap code reader.

Will do thanks! What cheap code reader would you recommend BTW?

P0453 evaporative emission system pressure sensor/switchhad high voltage input

a while ago my '07 987 CS threw the same code (evap valve..?) and JFP suggested back-blowing air through the valve while applying 12V to the valve connector (to open the valve).

I disconnected the small tube that connects to the throttle body to the valve and blew air through it and the code never returned, you may want to try it.

The Evap valve its located underneath the driver side intake plenum.

Good luck!

BTW my Boxster is ‘99

Interesting. I’ll have to find it first. How did you apply 12V?

Saw another post on 453 and it said replace sensor on top of gas tank.

Your code (p0453) is for the tank pressure sensor, not the purge valve that Gilles mentioned.

shacky 10-21-2018 08:20 PM

Should I try new gas cap ?

So it was wires to fuel pressure sensor. Mice ate through insulation. Mechanic said they make the insulation out of peanut oil!
