Did I permanently damage my car?

ok, so I was driving in third gear with my mind somewhere else and stopped at a grocery store which you have to access through a short, stiff incline.

I slowed down but did not realize I was in third gear stalledi n the middle of the incline with people around and a car behind me so it happened very fast.

I restarted it and pushed it pretty hard since I was on the incline (still not getting that I was on third gear) and stalled again...I then FINALLY realized that I was in third gear...I parked and it STUNK (like burned rubber) in the whole parking lot...I went home (5min away) and the car really smells...

Could have I caused permanent damage? if so, what is is likely to be...
I feel so bad! My poor little car!

Sounds like you smoked the clutch a little (or a lot!). This may have accelerated the wear of your clutch.

Ditto. Nothing major assuming you haven't notice symptoms since.

just heated up your clutch...when it get heated you will smell this burnt cat hair smell but it'll clear, No big deal unless your clutch has over 50k miles on it.

well that makes me feel better! After this I just went home to give it some rest so I have not noticed anything. I am sick with a fever so I will probably not try it before tomorrow...My car has 37K so hopefully the clutch has plenty of life left...i just can't figure out what why the clutch would create such a burned smell...

I let my preacher drive my car....it was one day old. It had less than 400 miles on it. Well, he isn't your typical pastur and he took off from a stop full throttle through the first 4 gears and he SMOKED the crap out of my clutch. I was alittle irked because I told him to "take it easy" because the car was brand new....apparently he couldn't help himself. It was so bad the interior reeked of clutch with the top down at highway speeds. He probably shortened the life of the clutch a tad but other than that I think all is well. Anyway, these cars have some durability built into them and I have had no problems....that happened 3 yrs ago. You should be more than fine.
