October Car and Driver

Excuse me if someone posted this already (I did a search) but I was perusing my October Car and Driver and on page 123 as part of their Solstice GXP article they decide to compare the Solstice to an enthusiast-owned 987 base Boxster.

They don't say what year the car was but the part that caught my attention was this: "consider that our man Dokianakis bought his $53,935 Boxster with just 4000 miles on the clock for 35 grand."

They don't mention the year but I have to assume 2005. At $53,935 sticker, this was obviously no base car. Does anyone know where these $35,000 987s are?

I was thinking of getting a Solstice GXP or Sky Redline because of affordability but if I can find a 987 well into the 30s I would definitely pay the premium.

35K seems a bit low but I guess it would depend on options and mileage.....the box is definetly worth it. I checked and mainly saw them going for around 38-39K. Which is right around the price I would gladly sell you my 05 white, nice optioned, 987 with 9K miles for :) Not that I'm trying to get rid of it, but if someone buys it from me, then I would have no choice but to purchase the S. At least that's what I tell the wife.....

Haven't seen any at $35, but there is a local one for sale (actually a friend of mine) for $39 with very low mileage in excellent condition. I would guess a higher mileage 987 could fall down to $37 or so.

The car in question is in fact a base not an S. The GXP actually beat the base boxster by over a second at the track?? Very suprising. I guess it had more torque to pull itself out of the turns. They did notice that the Solstice had a drag coeffiecient of .45 though! I must say that is horrible. Did they even test it in a wind tunnel? The base boxster is slightly slower to 60 and in the 1/4 but it is almost 2 sec quicker to 130. Drag is a killer.
