Rear-ended

6:10 PM, Friday. Lady following too close after pushing into my lane, turning left onto an onramp from Scripps Poway Parkway onto I-15 South. Meters are on, lots of traffic, three or four cars in front of me in the intersection, I stop at the line to wait for the intersection to clear.

The lady behind me doesn't. BAM!

Naturally, she gets out and says, "DIDN'T YOU SEE THE LIGHT WAS GREEN?"

Well, no one was hurt, so that's all that mattered to me. I explained to her that when there are cars stopped in an intersection, you are not allowed to enter it, but she didn't seem to really care. By the end of our transaction though she seemed to have cooled down and said, "sorry about your car." Hers barely has a scratch, whereas mine has fairly substantial damage.

No big deal though, all repairable I suppose. Annoying though.

I managed to go over a year without even a door ding, I guess I was long overdue.

Glad to hear no one was hurt, especially after seeing her kids in the car. Hopefully there isn't any hidden damage.

Yeah, I can't imagine there's all that much damage underneath--it wasn't THAT fast of a hit. We'll see though--West Coast Specialties is pretty-damned thorough with their repairs.

BTW, this is a fantastic example of the reason why you should always carry a camera in your car. I keep my digicam in my car, but just as well, get a disposable digital (as opposed to film, so it can withstand heat) and throw it in the glovebox!

Not only can you get pictures of damage and the accident scene, you can take crystal-clear pictures of the paperwork. I've got her insurance papers, her license plate and her driver's license in perfect reproduction and I didn't have to write everything down. I still wrote down most of the info, just in case, but it's nice to know that I've got every single detail from her papers in case there's something I missed or mis-copied.

Eslai-

No bodily injury, that is good. Good idea w/the disposal digital camera.
That's what the guts looks likes from a bumperette.....

Eslai,

I have something serious to contribute...drum roll please. I just went through the same thing 6 months ago and all I can say is thoroughly research the body shop and get recommendations. I know you know this. When my car went to the shop with almost EXACTLY the same damage you had it came back FLAWLESS. I even had them put the S muffler on mine which ended up costing me nada (that is Spanish for no money out of my pocket). It sucks because you will be without your car for about a month, but at least the damage is all cosmetic. The bumperettes and crush blocks actually work. As for bodily injury, the broad behind is lucky you didn't give her a free nose job for her comment there in the land of plastic surgery.

Eslai,

Well, that sucks! Sorry to see that this happened. As others have said, good thing no one was injured.

Other than being rear-ended; from your photos, it looked like a beautiful day there!

Good advice on the disposable digicam. I am going to get one.

Maybe you can upgrade to the 2007 bumper with the rear diffuser! If they have one. I have yet to read SD987 post on the 07 Order Guide.

Take care!

PS- you must have taken "anger management" classes before...like Rail26 said, a good right-left comdo to the schnooze might have felt good...for you at least!

Hehehe, well it's just a car after all, and it's not like she crashed my Enzo. I try not to get angry in accidents these days--I used to but then I realized that I was missing important parts of the transaction. I like to stay calm and make sure I remember every detail of the scene, know what I mean?

The Sport Design package with that rear bumper is not sold seperately from my understanding. I don't like the looks of it anyways--fake venturis? No thanks.

As for the part about making sure the car goes to a good mechanic, I hear ya, Rail! Luckily I'm acquainted with one of the better Porsche bodyshops in the area. My uncle is my insurance agent and he takes all his cars there--they work almost primarily on Porsches. Turns out that my dealer takes all his cars there too. West Coast Specialities.

They've taken care of me in the past...not that I've uh, been in all that many uh, accidents... er... naw, not at all....

At least I've never been at fault, well, other than that one time coming down the hill from my mother's house a little too fast and going off-roading....

camera phone

all my recent cell phones (Sony Ericsson T610, HP 6315, Motorola Ming) have nicer and nicer integrated digital cameras. I found them very useful in many occasions

Yeah, I was pretty surprised by that. No answer I can give you on that. She does have some paint loss on the bumper though.

Haha, the muffler and exhaust tip aren't damaged at all. Had I been feeling a little sly I suppose I could've changed that over the weekend...

...but I'm a good boy.
