97 Boxster Convertible top issues

I thought that I read somewhere you can upgrade the convertible top transmissions, cables, and motor from a newer model? I have a 97 Boxster that just started to occasionally give me issues when moving the top up or down.(Not moving both sides equally) I have done the adjusting by removing the cable from the drive motor and using a power drill so I know the cables are at least okay. I am assuming that a gear or cable might be going bad in the drivers side transmission but I haven't pulled it yet. Would you suggest a setup out of a newer model or repair what I have?
