Picture says it all. Sure, its loaded to the hilt with options, but still - $100K?

I’d rather buy a used GT4 for the same money and get the sweet flat 6. Plus I’m likely to avoid the steep depreciation a $100k FOUR CYLINDER 718 will see.

Yes, $100,000 for a Boxster does sound high to me, so I looked at inflation rates and dollar value compared to 2000 and found a multiplier of 1.46%. If a fully optioned Boxster in 2000 cost say $65,000, that adjusted amount would be $94,900...so, I suppose (in that context at least) that $100k isn't unreasonable.

So for giggles, let's pretend we could merge today with then...if it were 2000 and a current 718 was for sale at the Porsche dealer next to a loaded 986 and were the same price, which one do you think would get all the attention (and sales)? Or what if today the 986 was new and in a showroom next to a 718 and were the same price? I suppose my point is that history produces the car for that time and that we should all be grateful that the 718 wasn't available then....or we wouldn't be driving our 986's. Either that, or if the 718 was available then, the current model would be the Porsche xxx fusion powered hover-car...convertible, of course. Lol. :)

I just had a meeting at Riverside Porsche/Walter's. Beautiful 718 Cayman on the floor, $103K. If I could swing that money, I think I would buy a 911T?

Spare a thought, we pay almost US$100k for a base, before options.

I bought my speed yellow 2000 S off E-Bay in 2003 for 36K, about a year later another 2000 S in speed yellow popped up for sale for $44K, seller posted the Monroney sticker in the ad. MSRP was $ 95,388. :eek:

Yes, but the 718 interiors are so much nicer than our 986's, and they are much, much quicker/faster. 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.6 at 115 mph, 177 mph top speed. Those are incredible specs! If the PDK is specified, they are even quicker. Even quicker than a Corvette, in fact.

The $100K cars are heavily optioned, you can get a base car for around $60K.

It depends on the 986, I have leather everywhere, including the air vents. ;)

I’d love a picture of those vents, I previously thought it was introduced for 987.

Ha! I have foam air vents, at least foam in my air vents...

And this price discussion is precisely why it’s a good idea to get into these cars (986) before they start to tick up. I just looked at the NADA for my car as it sits... books over 14k now (2002 S with 59k)

It was a 986 option, I think XNN, although it might have been a special request from the original owner. Here's an old picture that shows them, you can see the stitching on the back of the fin, the adjustment lever and open/close wheel are also leather. My 986 has zero plastic panels anywhere on the dash.

Wow, those are really nice! Never heard of that option on an original 986.

Just because it's covered in leather doesn't mean it's as nicely styled or feature-laden as the new interiors.

I have the all-leather interior too on my 986 - it definitely adds quality that the plastic just doesn't have. I look at used 987/981 Caymans and Boxsters all the time and don't understand why more people don't add the leather interior option - it makes such a big difference.

Back to “$100k for a Boxster is now a thing”.

Buying a new Boxster today and back I the day always got pricey if you went crazy on the options.
