hard top question

I'm trying to plan ahead. If luck goes my next week and I'm able to get the Boxster I'm looking at and I would like to consider a hard top. I plan to drive it in the winter months when the road conditions permit and I like the look of them. I saw there was a hard top for sale close to me but I wasn't sure what else would be needed to mount it to the car. I thought there were some mounts/bots needed. I searched Pelican Parts this evening but I wasn't able to find anything, I'll admit I probably wasn't using the correct search terms.

Also are the hard tops years specific? Would and 03 top fit an 04?

Spin locks.

1997 to 2004 use the same hardtop

Make sure it’s a Boxster top and not a Carrera top. Boxster tops are much less common as all 996s convertibles came with a hardtop. On Boxsters it was a pricy extra that most people skipped. The Boxster hardtop is usually between $1,000 and $1,500. If it’s much less then this it’s either damaged or a Carrera hardtop.

Good luck.

You may also want to buy the finishing cover for the center latch at the windshield header. It's not necessary but it covers the hardtop latch and makes things pretty if the hardtop you buy doesn't come with one. If you buy the car first, get the spinlocks and install them and then you can drive the Boxster to pick up the hardtop if you don't have a big van or pickup that can transport it home.

There's also the zeintops that make the box look more like the cayman...

People refer to them as hardtop spinlocks. You don't need anything on the windshield frame as it attaches the same way as the softtop. You need one spin lock on each side in the rear, which is where the posts on the hardtop go. Just be forewarned you will get some rubber squeak type noises with the top on when going over bumps because the car will Flex but the roof will not. I found it annoying at first but got used to it.

The spinlocks double as mounts for the "speedster humps" fwiw

I liked that the allen wrench seated nice and firm. No losing that tool. Best price.

If you can buy the spin locks with someone else's blood on them it will save you some time during installation ! :D What a painful little part to install I am glad I'm done with mine ! Good luck with your install .
