Lug nut key lost

I bought a new set of tires from Discount tire a few months ago. I went to do a brake job this evening and noticed my key was missing WTF! Am I going to get raped by Porsche for a replacement key? Help! Thanks.

You could use a bolt extractor and install regular un-keyed bolts.
When I installed my spacers, I dumped my keyed bolts b/c I was sick of messing around with them. If someone really wants the wheels, they will use an extractor.

You can get it off with a regular socket. Find one that needs a whack to get on the nut and it will come off. Those lock nuts are useless. The thieves know how to get them off. Replace them with regular lug nuts.

Did you check your glove box? That's where DT put mine and where I finally thought to look after I could not find it in the frunk under the access cover where Porsche originally put it. At least DT did put it into a plastic bag first.

What did DT say about the lost key? Why won't they replace? In my opinion, if they used it, they should know where they put it, and if they don't, then they should be responsible for replacing it.

I agree with using non-locking lugs, but this is a matter or principle....or as far as I see it.

23mm deep well socket will do the trick. Lost my key and this method worked fine.

Guys... I’m a friggin idiot, sincere confession here. I had assumed I had lock lugs. I do not. My previous Boxster did. I went to DT, The guy had a bucket full of lock lugs. So we took the bucket o lug locks out to my car to find mine only to discover right then I had no lock lugs LMAO. I hope y’all got a laugh out of this as I did :-)

Last time I thought I lose the key (little do I realize 987.2 have a tool compartment where it is stored), my Pcar dealer will only charge me for the replacement key and no labor charge to find me the correct key.

Agree that the lock is pretty useless, I ditched mine when I started doing HPDEs and needed to check my lugnut torque all the time. You should check your car thoroughly to make sure the key isn't hiding somewhere though. Check the little pouch in the front/bottom of the spare tire cover, the tool kit roll, glove box, arm rest compartment and both the frunk and trunk, especially if you have lots of stuff in them. Even look to see if it is wedged under the spare. If you don't find it anywhere in your car, give the Discount Tire store you bought from a call. They may have it sitting on a shelf waiting for your call. They may have found it and are holding it waiting for the rightful owner to call and claim it. I'm not making excuses for them, but they put lots of tires on cars and the key doesn't say Porsche on it, so they probably wouldn't know who to call if they were so inclined.

It depends on your definition of "rape".
Been there done that, Dealer charged me 75 Euros for replacement. (labour was free )

Also check under the passenger seat. They may have left it on the floor and it rolled under the seat.

I went to dealer parts dept and asked if I could borrow their kit as my car was right out in front. After trying a half dozen of their keys, I had all the locks off. Went in, returned the set, bought 4 normal lug bolts. Problem solved and future problems prevented. I had normal 17" wheels, nothing special beyond brand new tires. Never worried about them getting stolen. Parked all over town.
