Well, that didn't last long
So much for enjoying Boxster ownership. One week into having my nice, shiny well cared for car, someone in the condo has decided that just won't do.
They have very carefully taken to chipping away at the paint with a key or something sharp. Last night they decided that the windshield was fair game too. I asked to review the security footage, but was told that only the Police could do so. I hate to waste their time when somewhere a real crime needs their attention. |
That’s what the police are for. Property damage (especially to that extent) certainly is a crime.

Sorry to hear someone is being petty and jealous. Don't feel bad for involving the police, you will probably need a police report to file an insurance claim with your insurance or against the person responsible. Not sure what the laws in Canada are, but in the US anything over $1k is a felony, the windshield on the Boxster comes pretty close.
|
Sorry to hear that, and call the police. If nothing else maybe scar them into stopping. Happens here in Spain a lot too. My wifes car was rubbed hard enough to leave white paint on the door and scratches, i havent tried buffing it out yet.
My old boss had his car keyed 3 times! There was a case here where an elderly man was randomly keying cars parked on his street. Someone got it on film. Some people  |
You clearly have a criminal jerk living nearby. Your likely not the only person targeted. You should get the police involved to shut the jerk down.
|
Call the police. Hopefully they find this greasy hipster (now the majority of TO) and taze his ass. Big cities attract idiots. That's why this idiot moved out! Hope it gets resolved.
|
Thanks everyone.
At this point I seem to be the only affected party, as no one else in the building has filed a complaint. I had words with the Super and Security and this is the first complaint of vandalism they've had. It's nice building in a good location out in Etobicoke. The majority of people here are well over 45, and a large portion of them retirees who don't even drive. I'll give the police a call today and see if anything shows up on surveillance. Windshield: Repair or replace? Paint chips: Is it worth going the touch-up paint route? |
if the police won't pay any attention to it and you can't review the surveillance you might want to set up your own camera.

No new damage this morning, keeping my fingers crossed. |

Pick up a trail camera from a sporting goods store. They are motion activated and run on a self contained battery. They also take night vision in case you don’t park in a well lit area. Just hide it in a shrub near your parking space and wait. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sorry to hear this! Hope you find the a**shole and have him punished somehow.

Anyway with some photos be easier to help suggest repair direction. |
All I can say is, I really feel for the person that ever does this to my car and I catch them.
|
I'm very sorry to hear this. I know exactly the type of people in the city that does this. One of my old cars was vandalized also, losing thousands in aftermarket sub, amp plus other valuables.
They're most likely going to be wearing a hoodie or a hat so I'm not sure if a camera is going to help. Do report to the police. You're not wasting their time. One thing that surprised me when people saw me getting out of my 986 was people automatically assume it's an expensive car, even when the paper value is half of a brand new Civic. Hence the jealousy and therefore assume that "oh this guy have it good, let me put you in your place" socialist mentality. |
Back.....
...in the Old West, horse thievery was a hanging offense.
In today's world your car is your horse. Catch 'em and hang 'em high. |

The law has been the basis for not pressing charges against individuals who shoot and kill suspected car burglars, and an individual suspected of stealing copper wiring from a car. It is worth noting that some other states authorize the use of force to protect personal property, but not deadly force. Texas, it's still on the books if someone tampers with your conveyance, you are free to protect your property by any means. I'm not necessary advocating violence, especially deadly force -- but don't mess with my Porches if you happen to be visiting Texas. |
A big fat sticker on the windshield…"touching this car will lead to loss of teeth"
:troll: |
What kind of ****************ed up outfit is your condo/apt? They won't let you review the security footage? Only the police can view it? Is that a ****************ing law where you live?
I'd be more pissed at the condo association, and up in their grill, legally, to compel them to produce the footage. Bring on the haters. I'd leave nothing, zero, upon the table. |

The general public's reaction to the car is that you are some high roller with a $100K car. They either admire it, or hate you for having it. I wasn't prepared for the attention. It's clear that I have to learn to blend in, so I placed an order for some, Tan in a Can, Diamond inserts for my Teeth, an authentic Louis Vuitton leather baseball cap and excessively large and blingy Gold Watch : ) I filed a Police report this morning. Let's see what becomes of it. Quote:

I'm not going to think about it anymore for today. The sun is shining and I am going out for a drive while it's out.
Thanks for your concern everyone. Now get out there and drive! |
