Sport Exhaust Option
Hello everyone. I've been viewing this forum for the past few months to get a feel for what's happening with the 986. Now I"m getting serious about purchasing a 2001 'S' and the option list includes Sport Exhaust System, code XLF. Can anyone give me details of what exactly this is?

While the sports exhaust is nice to have as an option since the car is used and you won't be paying extra for it. All it does is allow you to switch in "loud" mode for a throatier sound. It gives you no power gains at all. If I was changing my exhaust I would go aftermarket in order to get great sound and increased power for the same or lower price compared with the factory option. :)

How do you go about changing between the two modes? I asked the owner if it had an interior switch to do this and he said no.
|
Not sure. I believe my friend's 996 has a switch on the dash. :)

2001 Boxster did not come with a dash switch.
|
Does that mean this option is simply a full time sportier sounding exhaust?
|
Never said that. The bypass valves close 27-42mph with the standard install. The speed they drive through villages.
