Noisy interior temp sensor fan

I have an annoying buzzing sound coming from the passenger airbag area, starts as soon as the key is in the AC on position and when the key is turned to off you can hear it winding down again. I'm assuming it's the fan that draws air over the interior air temp sensor, behind the plastic grill on the passenger dash.

I can't find any guides for removing this, has anyone done it, and/or managed to fix this fan to stop it buzzing? Looks like it's just a small DC fan so should be able to clean and oil it. A replacement is silly money (like $250, for basically a computer fan!)

I've had that annoying sound in mine since i bought the car 5 years ago. It doesn't always bother me, but when it does it's annoying enough that I turn the A/C off just so I don't have to listen to it.

Seems to vary in pitch with engine speed. (which seems very strange to me)...

Take it apart, clean it , lube it. ;)

If I remember correctly, it's just snaps in/out.

...instructions unclear, dick stuck in dash :P

But yes you are correct, it just snaps out, gave it good clean and some grease, now it's a bit quieter and takes twice as long to spin down... sigh... oh well!

How to over-engineer a small fan...
