1999 Hard Top
 

My wife wants to go look at this 1999 Hard top.:

This is the only hard top I have seen. I assume this is a aftermarket hard top. The VIN says that it is a convertible. Any thoughts or advice about buying this car with a hard top?

That's an optional, factory hard-top. It's removable, and when removed, you can deploy the regular rag top. One of those hard tops is on my list of things to buy for my car.

Priced well, looks good. But it's a 19 yr old car. Gotta see what those records include. IMS is not too big of an issue. But at that age things like suspension, electronics, etc get tired and might need some refreshing. A solid PPI (as usual) is in order. Nice looking car though!

Keep checking the parts for sales section of this forum. They pop up on there pretty often. normally $1000 to $1500. I sold mine on there for $1200.

Ebay is another place that always has some but they are normally priced around $2000.

You can surely sell the hard top to someone who wants one for use on the track or winter use. The colder it is, the higher they sell for.

Removing the top is a two person job. So the question to answer is what is the condition of the soft top and its mechanism. And how to verify that means taking off the hardtop.

Wonderful cars but they are old and that means age as well as wear.

My 2000s came with the hard top, previous owner liked the look. He took it off so i could see the rag top condition. It is a 2 person job, i took it off and have not put it on since. However I ordered a hardtop hoist today that will allow me to install single handed.

I use a kayak hoist fixed to the roof of my garage. Not hard to put on/take off by myself.
I have my top for sale but it’s just to pay for go-faster stuff for the track. Otherwise, it’s quite dandy in the spring and fall! Makes for a quieter ride on the highway too.
