Top open Light stay lit when closed

My top open light is staying on when the top is closed. The top is fully operational, and the windows move accordingly. Is this caused by the latch micro switch?

The sensors are on the rail that the clamshell rides on. This is incorrect, see below. Getting old is a B*cth.

deleted incorrect info.

Thanks Paul! Are these normally open or normally closed switches? I did see these and one had the cover partially slid back.

errr, those aren't sensors, they are little plastic thingys you slide to adjust how the clamshell sits. the sensor for the top closed light is behind the plunger that the latch activates when you close the latch in the centre front of the windscreen.

Try sticking your finger in and pushing it (the whole where the latch goes) a bunch of times, see if it's just gummed up, and if you can get the light to go out when poking it in. If so, you can add a bit of felt or something to the latch to push it in a bit further when closed. If that doesn't work, you can replace the microswitch switch that it activates, part number 986 613 795 02 , should be about $60.

The light goes out before the front latch is closed, so how can a switch there be the cause?

Upon further research I believe 2000 to 2004 cars have a switch built into the driver's side top transmission.

Early cars have a microswitch near the B pillar and a lever operated microswitch on the top motor near the 3rd brake light.

I have to keep pressing the closed button for a few seconds more after the latch is closed otherwise the light stays on.
