Getting wheels powdercoated

Monday to the shop. I've read many comments, on a variety of forums, that the backside of the wheel contacting the hub... and the lug holes... shouldn't be coated instead masked off.

I don't track. No fancy braking. Should I just deliver the wheels and let him do his thing? Or... should I instruct him to mask the contact points, hub and lugs?

Definitely want to keep the back side clean of any PC. The lug holes are a bit more tough. If powder coated all the way deep, it will most likely flake the first time you torque to spec.

Thank you. I chose to visit the shop late afternoon... discussed my concerns... and his responses echoed yours. I'm feeling more confident my wheels won't roll off.

Would you mind sharing what it costs to have them powdercoated? PM is fine with me too. I have been wanting to ditch the plasti-dip on mine and have them painted gloss or satin black and am getting close to pulling the trigger.

$75 a wheel. 16 inchers. I asked him what would be his price for the 22s I sport on the Edge... same price. I toured his entire shop, nice, and everything he had hanging looked smooth as silk.

I had considered painting the wheel myself... spray paint... the entire process. Considered the time to square everything up... cleaning, degreasing, sanding, degreasing, smoothing, etc., and figured 3 bills was the most efficient route.
